The NTUA offers a series of benefits and services to students with the aim of ensuring a fruitful, efficient and pleasant life within the NTUA by promoting mental and physical health, cultural and social upgrade as well as the utilization of educational programs and scholarships.
Academic Identity (PASO). The Pass is provided to all students, undergraduate and postgraduate, as long as their studies have not exceeded the number of years required to obtain the degree increased by 2. It is valid for one academic year and ensures a discount on buses, trains, ships, museums and artistic events, by a percentage ranging from 25-50%. It is issued by the Secretariat of each Faculty after the student's registration at the beginning of the academic year and requires only a photograph. Meal Card. It ensures free meals in NTUA restaurants (at Zografou Polytechnic and in Patision), to students whose family income is below a threshold. Information and supporting documents for the meal card are provided by the Student Welfare Department (Thomaideio Publications Building). Libraries. The NTUA Library & Information Center was born in 1837 and began its official operation in 1914 by state law. It is one of the oldest and largest Greek academic libraries. Today the Library has 240,000 book volumes, 1,500 journal titles and many online services. The services and material of the Library can be used by all members of the NTUA, as well as the general public, which, however, does not enjoy the right of borrowing and inter-lending. . Since April 2000, the new building at Zografou University of Technology (Central Library) with a total area of 7,000 m2 has been in operation, including a 500-seat reading room, 6 group study rooms (minimum group of 3 people, maximum duration 3 hours), 2 workstations for computers and 2 copiers, which work with magnetic cards. The same building houses the Historical Library of NTUA as a special collection. It is the result of a systematic effort to reconstitute the old library collection of the & Foundation. It includes approximately 60,000 volumes of books and magazines that have been published from the 17th century until 1950. The bulk of the collection consists of old and rare books, pamphlets, maps, engravings and encyclopedias.
The Patisia Annex of the NTUA Central Library consists of from 3 functional modules, closely linked to each other, which thematically cover the subject of Architecture, Urban Planning and Fine Arts. In particular, these sections are the following: 1. Library - Reading Room, Averof Building, 2. Library - Reading Room, Bouboulinas building, 3. "K. A. Doxiadis Library", Bouboulinas building, 5th floor. The Doxiadis collection with approximately 24,000 items is an important research and education information unit with international influence, including book and magazine titles that cover a wide range of academic subjects.
Health Care. Free health care is a privilege of all students who are not insured by an insurance fund. It is secured with the student's health care booklet, which is issued at the Zografou Clinic upon presentation of the police ID, the student ticket, photographs and the declaration of Law 1599/86. Health care includes: immediate medical assistance, pharmaceutical care, dental care, office care, inpatient and outpatient hospital care, paraclinical tests and special treatments, care for chronic diseases and conditions.
Pharmaceutical care provides free medicines to the students from pharmacies contracted with the NTUA.
Hospital care is provided to every student patient of the Institution after a relevant medical diagnosis and consent of the Medical Service. Laboratory tests are done in public Hospitals. Psychological Support. NTUA operates a Counseling Unit for difficulties related to studies, such as severe exam and/or performance anxiety, inability to manage time, difficulty in making decisions, difficulties in adapting to student life or in the city/country of study, difficulties in relationships and communication, such as conflicts in the family/friend environment, feelings of loneliness and isolation, etc. and other personal difficulties, such as health problems, psychosomatic problems, mood swings, etc. Information: Liaison Office - Student and New Alumni Services, Ms. Eleni Paspaliari, Ms. A. Student Residences for Painters. Zografou University of Technology operates two student residences: the Old and the New Zografou Student Residences. The Old Zografou Student Hostel has been operating since 1975 and is housed in a ten-story building located on the Zografou side, on Iroon Polytechniou Street. Students from other Universities and T.E.I. are housed in Hestia. and students of the E.M.P. at a rate of 1%. The New Student Residences of Zografou have been operating since 2005 and are housed in a complex of 15 buildings. They are located at 6A Kokkinopoulou Street. All their rooms are available to E.M.P. students. The Centers operate under the management of the Youth and Lifelong Learning Foundation (INEDIVIM).
Student Housing Allowance. It is granted to students who study and live in a city other than that of the main family residence and whose family or individual income is below a threshold. Information and submission of supporting documents for the student housing allowance is provided by the Student Welfare Department (Thomaideio Publications Building). Awards and Scholarships. Awards & scholarships are granted to NTUA students who meet the conditions set by the Testators-Donors or by Decisions of the Senate (such as performance in Panhellenic exams, Semesters, specific courses, place of origin). The awards and scholarships awarded and granted by the NTUA are broken down as follows:
- Twenty-five categories of awards to NTUA undergraduate students: 13 from Endowments, 4 from the Regular Budget, 5 from Third Party Sponsorship, 3 from the Special Research Account.
- Two categories of awards to NTUA postgraduate students: 1 from Endowment and 1 from Third Party Sponsorship.
- Nine categories of scholarships to NTUA undergraduate students: 8 from Endowments, 1 from the Regular Budget.
- Six categories of scholarships for NTUA postgraduate students: 4 from Endowments, 2 from Third Party Sponsorship.
- Scholarships and awards are also granted by various Foundations, which award the money orders directly to the beneficiaries.
- Eugenidou Foundation (for graduate students of NTUA who wish to undertake postgraduate studies at NTUA or abroad).
- Chorafas Foundation (for PhD candidates of NTUA, who have published papers in specific areas).
- Tiftixi Foundation (in excellent & needy students of the Schools of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering).
In addition to these, it is sent by the Ministries of National Education & Religious, Economic, Foreign etc. informational material referring to scholarships or awards granted to male and female students studying at HEIs following a competition or due to origin, and all this material is forwarded to the Secretariats of NTUA Schools to inform their students. The Department of Student Affairs has issued an informative guide to awards and scholarships, which lists in detail for each award and scholarship the conditions for claiming them by interested students.
Restaurants. The Foundation's restaurants (in Zografou Polytechnic and in Patision) are open morning, noon and night every day, except for holidays (Christmas, Easter, summer). They primarily serve the students and staff of the Institution. Free meals are provided to students of the Foundation who have a low family income, as provided by the current legislation.
The operation of the restaurants is monitored by the Restaurant Committee, which exists specifically for this purpose, and is controlled from a sanitary point of view by the head of the Medical Service of the Foundation (Physician). Employment and Career Structures. At the NTUA, the Graduate Employment and Career Structures also operate to serve the students and in particular:
- Internship Office.
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit.
NTUA Liaison Office - Student and New Graduate Services. At NTUA, the Liaison Office - Student and New Alumni Services operates. It was created in order to offer students and new graduates support and systematic information in the first steps of their scientific and professional career. Those students or graduates who wish can meet the Specialist Advisors available at the Office and discuss with them the issues that concern them.
With the Documentation / Information Advisor for postgraduate studies and scholarships in Greece and abroad, positions work, conferences, seminars, lectures and continuing education topics.
With the Career Counselor to plan their career, write a CV and cover letter for graduate studies or to find a job, prepare for a job interview, etc. .
Publishing Activity. The EMP, exercising its academic policy as an Institution, intervenes in the production of books and educational materials with the following mechanisms: EMP University Publications. They publish books covering the subjects of science and technology which are treated at the EMP, but also books of more general interest. These are mainly addressed to students, some are distributed as books and others concern a wider audience. NTUA University Publications has a modern Desktop Electronic Typography Laboratory.
NTUA Printing Unit. It is a unit equipped with modern machinery, in which the total volume of notes and books published under the responsibility of the Foundation and distributed to students is produced. The activities related to EMP publications are housed in the Thomaidio Publications Building and are:
- The EMP University Publications Office.
- The EMP University Publications Laboratory.
- The Printing Unit.
- The permanent exhibition of books.
- The distribution of notes and notebooks to students.
- The storage of produced books and notes.
Section of Physical Education NTUA. The Department of Physical Education has two gymnasiums: one in Patision (Bouboulina building, 5th floor) and one in Zografou Polytechnic (near the Student Residence). Students who are members of sports clubs can participate in some of the Foundation's representative teams and take part in inter-university competitions. The rest of the students can work as amateurs, both in the NTUA facilities and in non-polytechnic spaces. In more detail, the sports that NTUA students can engage in are: gymnastics/fitness training, aerobics, volleyball, football, yoga, pilates, table tennis, tennis, swimming, polo, sailing, windsurfing, underwater diving, rappel, karate , judo, windsurfing, climbing, athletics, horse riding, skiing, chess, skiing, water skiing, etc. Participation in sporting events is free, with the exception of a few sports in which students pay a portion of their expenses.
Learning Musical Instruments NTUA
Physician. Medical assistance is provided by the clinic that exists in Zografou University of Technology and functions as a diagnostic and referral service, as well as for the provision of first aid. The clinic is located in the center of the Polytechnic Campus, on the ground floor of the general courses building of SEMFE, next to the central square. Information: (+30) 210-772-1566, Doctor Mr. A. Cycle lane. At Zografou University of Technology, a 4 km cycle path has been built since 2004. It is a green route that connects all the schools and infrastructures of the NTUA (restaurant, library, etc.), while temporary rest areas with seating areas have also been created. pergolas, bike racks and water fountains. The Cycle Path passes through the 2 central squares of the NTUA in the administration, while its extensions to EKPA and Goudi Park are being studied.
Student Advocate. The institution of the Student Advocate established by article 55 of law 4009/2011 and updated by article 130 of law 4957/2022 has as its mission the mediation between students and professors or administrative services of the institution, the observance of legality in framework of academic freedom, dealing with maladministration phenomena and safeguarding the orderly operation of the institution. The Student Advocate has no authority in matters of exams and students' grades. As part of his responsibilities, the Student Advocate investigates cases ex officio or following a student's report and mediates with the competent bodies for their resolution. It may request from the Foundation's services any information, document or other evidence on the case, examine persons, perform an autopsy and order an expert opinion. If he finds that in a specific case the legality is not observed, that there are phenomena of maladministration or that the proper functioning of the Institution is disturbed, he draws up a conclusion, which he notifies the professor concerned or the competent administrative department and the student who submitted the petition, and mediates with any convenient way to solve the problem. The student's Advocate may, by his act, place in the file a report that is deemed manifestly vague, unfounded or unsupported, while, in the event that he considers that there are indications of a disciplinary offense, he forwards the case to the competent disciplinary body.
Foreign languages. The foreign language course is optional. The languages taught are English, French, German and Italian. The total study cycle lasts 4 semesters and the grade of the course is included in the diploma grade. Those of the students who hold recognized diplomas, at least Lower Cambridge for English and equivalent diplomas for the other languages, are exempted from attending the first three (3) semesters of the course. However, they are not exempted from studying the 4th semester, during which specialized technical terminology is taught. Students who do not have any of the above diplomas are required to attend the full cycle of studies.
Educational Excursions. In the framework of the provisions related to the studies, educational excursions are planned every year to inform the students of the modern technological developments or the classical standards of science and art, and generally to supplement their education.
The excursions in the interior they are addressed to students of each year and are planned by the faculty members of the Departments, whose educational program states the purpose of the excursion. These trips are attended by the students attending the courses of the Department that plans the trip and is responsible for its conduct.
Educational trips abroad are usually planned for final year EMP students and last up to 3 weeks. They are carried out on the basis of a specific educational program, but referring to the overall program of each School and not a single Department.
Part of the travel expenses for the educational trips both at home and abroad, as well as a significant part of the remaining expenses of the trips are usually paid by the Student Club, sometimes from other public bodies and the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE).
NTU Choir
Alumni Office. The Alumni Association at Zografou Polytechnic, which is part of the Public Relations Department of the Foundation, operates and serves the graduates of the Foundation, focusing on the direction of strengthening the relations of EMP graduates with each other and with the Foundation.
